I broke them. After around 1 month. The metal-core broke, it doesn´t vibrate so it breaks if you hit other stuff that doesn´t vibrate too much. No problems with my crashes, but my ride bell killed them completly (tips broke off), thats also the same reason why wood sticks break. Non-vibrating on non-vibrating kills one of the two parts... luckily, its always the stick. I kicked them into the trash can.

Only sticks I have seriously ever broke have all been nylon tipped
And every time it happened I glimpsed the little white projectile flying past my face!

ive had my ahead sticks for a year now and have only replaced the plastic sleaves once. i dont hit crazy hard but im not tapping the kit either. i dont hit my cymbals very hard cause i dont want to damage them heh but the bell on the ride i love a loud bell so i kinda hit that hard.

so vater or vic firth? ive tried both i like the vf better imo but im hearing vater last longer.. hmm im goin to guitar center today so ill try some out i guess

One thing that i found out is just to have different sticks sitting around when your playing drums. I have a pair of Japanese Oak 5A from Promark, 55A Vic Firth, and 5A Vic Firth nylon tip(which i just switch to). You'll find which ones suit you best by how they feel when playing.

When choosing a stick, look for the sticks in which you can see the grain of the wood (I don't know to explain it better on English), don't take those white looking, same colored sticks.

For example, these are the stick you should buy, not the model, but by the looks of the wood, where you can clearly see the grain (hope this is the right word) of the wood:

Don't buy the sticks which look like these:

These sticks with same-colored wood will brake sooner.

These are the sticks I use.
The grains are highly defined!

Especially if you have expensive gear , smashing on it like hell seems pretty silly to me.
But ok it's your stuff so feel free to bash it
If you say that for me...let me explain something : I play hard when I need to play hard (in loud situation...with my extreme metal band) because that's what the music requires of course...I don't understand the metal drummer who hit like "sissies" (Kollias' words ) ahaha...if you play loud music you have to play loud...obviously...
Well, you can play rather hard without breaking a lot of gears...you can learn how to play hard with a right technique...

Same thing when I'm in a softer situation (jazz or whatever) : I play softer 'cause the music requires that...

Because we are musicians (I guess ^^) we have to adapt our playing/drumming every time..."that's life"...

hmm yea thats true Khaternal , but for the cymbals i think they are very loud even if you hit rather soft (my cymbals do ). What i think is , that you perhaps use too much force in playing if it's not needed at all , like if you have massive ear protection , you slam harder cause you hear less , but other people in the room (band mates , audience) might hear it 10 times louder than you.
I'm always heard though i never Stomp on the stuff than rather hitting it pretty normal.
