here is my 2 cents-I started double bass playing around 1989-90 when there was no talk of technique or heel toe-I just started slow and learned over the years where it felt right for me to find the sweet spot.over time I gained control and speed and I am CONSTANTLY working to improve as a drummer-its never ending. Like somebody else said-forget about technique and all that just play what you feel and it will all fall into place. Some days I like to play pedal to the metal fast. Some days I prefer to play some jazz or Latin rhythms. Make the drums your voice and it will just come out as you sharpen your skills over time.
