Default Less but more EFFICENT practice?

Hey George!

I read on some comments that you used to practice 8 hours and now you practice only 3 but with the same resoults...
Can you tell me some advice for a more efficent practice?

HOw do you coose what to do and for how long?

Endurance usually takes a lot of time of the practice....

Well, i don't practice 8 hours, i wanna have a life besides drumming...

Now, when i am in the States working on a new album i might practice for more than 10 hours and that's for 2 reasons: a) I am making a new album that will follow me for the rest of my life...b) i got nothing else to do away from home anyways

Seriously now, i am a professional drummer and also a drum freak, means i am always taking care the things i HAVE to first and then i get into the things i want to do aside from my band/projects etc. I always have a basic practice routine that covers most of my balance/control issues and keeps me into a good shape but that's just some general exercises i made for myself cause i know my needs.

When i get into something new, i stay there for as long as i feel i have the 60-70% of the concept, and i don't really spend my whole day on it, just a few minutes so i can go to other things as well.

In drums there are a few shortcuts but you don't really get them until you get REALLY into drums and know your playing very well. Just find your week spots and make a practice schedule that will cover each one, then go through it everyday but make sure it doesn't take more than 30 min.

I believe this is something i too need to work on. I think i spend too much time playing around and not enough exercises. Or, ill be halfway through an exercise and then go off on my own track haha.

THANKS!!

What I noticed is that my LEGS....they are pretty strange!

When My ankles are flying I have many difficulties to play with my full leg motion, is that normal'?
How should I avoid this problem?

I can play at 210, 220 or more....but I find hard to play a 180 for example, I never had this problems before starting to use also Ankles.

I've had that problem, and still do sometimes. You may have lost some muscle memory in your legs to play slower speeds, or your muscles could just be sore. George's balance, and coornation exercises help me fix that, make it your daily routine to play for those exercises.

180 is a tough tempo cause it's right there on the motion change...every "fast" drummer has problems there but you should pass it.How?Mixing different patterns that will force you to go through different motion....8th notes, 16ths, 32nds etc....add some 8th note and 16th note triplets....
If you've seen my DVD, there is the Basic Rhythmic Scale and the Advanced Rhythm Scale, these 2 workouts will definitely help you out with your problem.
Guys, check out my DVD, so much help there...you just have to go and actually practice those concepts!
